Welcome to the Beautiful Butterflies!
Beautiful Butterflies are ready to leave their sippy cups at home, and drink from regular cups, with occasional spills. These children are also ready for more independence, although they still get frustrated and need both encouragement and assistance.
Children are offered a variety of materials so they practice their newly developing self help skills. A variety of paints and art materials are readily available so children can be creative and explore at their own pace; as well as Developmentally Appropriate Learning Centers that foster language and communication, cognitive skills, fine and gross motor skills, critical thinking, and social emotional development.
Our Parent Engagement APP is updated daily so you can stay connected with your child’s day! Refrigerator art is available at pick-up!

First Steps Preschool participates in the federally sponsored CACFP food program and provides nutritional breakfasts, lunches and afternoon snacks. All meals meet or exceed federal guidelines and are served family-style, helping children to learn portion control, self help skills, and appropriate table manners. We are an equal opportunity facility. Parents are welcome to drop by to nurse or feed infants or join the “big kids” for lunch
Please provide the following items for your Toddler:
- Diapers/Pull Ups
- Wipes
- Diaper Cream (if needed)
- Blanket for Nap Time
- 2 Complete Changes of Clothing including Socks (More if potty training)
- *No Pacifiers, Sippy Cups, or Bottles Please!
*A Note on Clothing. We suggest dressing your children in clothes they can comfortably play in. Remember that children who are going through potty training, and even those who have mastered the bathroom, do best with clothing they can quickly pull down. While buttons and suspenders are cute, they are difficult for young children to undo when they realize they are in a hurry! Also keep in mind that we encourage children to explore, and things do get messy on occasion. We highly recommend clothing that is as washable as the kids! They will be painting, coloring, eating, and playing on the playground. While we do our best to keep the kids in smocks for art projects and out of really big messes, please understand that part of early children learning means they will sometimes “wear” their lessons.
Potty training is a very important part of the life of your 2-year old. Our teachers work in connection with our parents to potty train each child.
For children who are potty training, we request at least four full changes of clothing, including socks, labeled with first and last name. All children will be supervised and offered assistance as needed. For health and safety reasons, all soiled clothes will be placed in a sealed plastic bag and sent home with the child at the end of the day. Staff members will not rinse or wash items.
